New postal stamps honor American workers

The USPS rolled out the forever stamps this week. Among the men and women featured in the early 20^th century images are a railroad track worker, a linotyper in a publishing house and an airplane maker. The sheet includes 12 different stamps and <="http://blog-stampofapproval.com/2013/02/21/new-set-of-12-stamps-honors-americas-20th-century-workers/" rel="nofollow">comes in five different versions.

Tom Perez, secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor, said the stamps <="http://postalemployeenetwork.com/news/2013/08/made-in-america-forever-stamp/" rel="nofollow">are a reminder of the important role such workers have played in our history:

These iconic images tell a powerful story about American economic strength and prosperity. These men and women and millions like them really did build a nation.

The types of workers featured in this stamp collection helped make this nation great. They built the infrastructure that allowed the U.S. to soar in the post-World War II period. They were union members who were paid a fair wage for a hard day’s work. Let’s hope these images can remind policymakers and corporations alike of the important role workers serve.
